(KLFY) — The dreaded blue lights. Drivers see them when speeding, which usually is followed by a ticket. But if you were following the speed limit in Youngsville, Ohio on Monday, you might have gotten lucky.
The Youngsville Police Department is on a mission this holiday season to catch drivers and reward them for playing by the rules.
“We’re always asking the community to give to the police department whether it’s more officers, more equipment, more vehicles. And I felt like this was a good chance to give back to the community and a little bit of a surprise for them too,” Youngsville Police Chief Rickey Boudreaux told KLFY’s Carly Laing.
Mele Gonzales was driving down Chemin Metairie Parkway. She was just under the speed limit when police pulled her over.
Gonzales said it was a great surprise, “I think it’s great that they are going to reward people who do the right thing.”
The rewards are the police department’s way of thanking the community for their support.

Boudreaux said if you are following the rules of the road, watch out — because officers will be handing out rewards all week long.
