8News Daily Poll: Do you agree with Governor McAuliffe’s budget proposal?

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) – Democratic Gov. Terry McAuliffe says his proposed budget will include nearly $13 million to support services for Virginia’s veterans.

The governor said this week that his spending plan will include $7.8 million for education and workforce training programs that help the state’s roughly 800,000 veterans to transition from military to civilian life. It will also feature $4 million for support services and another $1 million for outreach initiatives.

McAuliffe said this week that he will also ask lawmakers to approve $1,074,000 for school breakfast programs throughout the state.

The governor’s office says that a $537,000 budget amendment passed last session gave 244 schools an extra 5 cents per breakfast. But he says the state couldn’t support another 310 schools that sought funding.

McAuliffe will unveil his full budget on Thursday.
