All tornado warnings have expired, but most of Central Virginia remains under a severe thunderstorm watch until 10 p.m.

At 3:23, a dangerous funnel cloud was spotted near Glen Allen.

A tornado watch has been issued for the counties shaded in red in the attached map, mainly I-95/I-85 and points east (this has been modified from the initial watch to now include Spotsylvania county and a few others in N. VA).

For most of us, we still have the “Enhanced Risk” for severe storms, which is a step above “Slight Risk”. Timeframe will be from now until 10pm while we are in the warm sector of this storm system. This is the “bingo” for biggest warming + biggest area of moisture = biggest area of unstable air.

Main threat will be wind damage, with isolated tornadoes, hail larger than 1″ and localized flooding also possible.

As the trailing cold front to this system passes later tonight, this will eventually bring an end to the storm threat, with rain ending overnight.

Mostly sunny skies are in the forecast for tomorrow, with highs near 83 degrees.

Monday high pressure will still be around and we’ll see mostly sunny skies and highs in the mid 80s.

Tuesday brings isolated storm chances with highs pushing into the upper 80s.

Wednesday starts mostly sunny but brings partly cloudy skies in the afternoon, high of 88. Thursday we’ll see scattered afternoon thunderstorms with highs in the mid 80s.
