HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A parade fit for champions, that’s what took place Tuesday afternoon in Henrico County. It was a tribute from the town to the local high school football team, the Highland Springs Springers, who just brought home a state championship trophy.

Moreore than 50 years ago in 1961: That’s the last time Highland Springs High School won a state championship in football.

“The accomplishment is more than anybody can even speak of, to be honest with you,” said head coach Loren Johnson. “It’s one of those deals where it could change the community if we feed into it the right way.”

Hundreds came out to celebrate the accomplishment with a parade and a rally to honor the team on Tuesday.

‘It means a lot to them and I love Highland Springs,” said one team parent, Brenda Sutton.

Coach Johnson says these past few days are memories that his team will carry with them for a lifetime.

“20 years from now they will go back and look at it and they will remember exactly what happened, when it happened, and how important it was to this community,” said Johnson.
