NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — The FBI has revealed new details about a fatal shooting earlier this year at a Chattanooga Navy reserve facility.
8News sister station WKRN has confirmed with the FBI’s Knoxville field office that FBI Director James Comey told reporters in New York Wednesday the July attack was “inspired by terrorist organization propaganda.”
The Lee Highway Armed Forces Recruiting Station was the first place gunman Mohammad Abdulazeez opened fire upon before going to the Navy Operations Support Center on Amnicola Highway, where the five servicemen were killed.
Randall Smith, Skip Wells, Thomas Sullivan, Sgt. Carson Holmquist and David Wyatt were killed in the attack.
Comey had previously said that a motive in the Chattanooga shooting may never be released during a November visit to Nashville.
“We’re still trying to make sure we understand Abdulazeez, his motivations and associations, in a really good way,” FBI Director James Comey told reporters during a visit to Nashville’s FBI field office on Friday.
