Family of 4 displaced from home after Henrico fire

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A Henrico family of two adults and two children will be displaced from their home for a short time after a house fire overnight.

Fire crews responded to the 5800 block of Yates Lane for the report of a house fire at 3:38 a.m. Wednesday. First arriving units reported smoke coming from the single story home. Inside the home, firefighters found fire in the kitchen around the stove area. The fire was marked under control at 3:58 a.m.

The fire was determined to have been accidental in nature and caused by a pan left on the stove and the stove left on after cooking.

The family was alerted to to the fire in by a working smoke alarm. All four were able to escape the house fire uninjured.

“Working smoke alarms not only save lives they also alerted the family to the fire while it was still small, minimizing the damage to the home,” fire officials said in a news release.
