RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Kelly Garrett is ready for a big change, and it brought her to Stony Point Surgery Center.

“I felt kinda bad about myself. I was, like, I need to fix this,” says the mother of two, ages 12 and 3.

She is planning a wedding and knows exactly what she wants to wear. “I want to look better in the dress that I love.”

It is why she went to Dr. Gordon Lewis for help. He explains the Mommy Makeover, a plastic surgery trend that has been popular nationwide for years, is now picking up in Central Virginia.

“Kids, of course, can cause a lot of changes to women’s bodies,” he says. “Cosmetic surgery is becoming more and more acceptable. That’s ultimately what it comes down to.”

Dr. Lewis’ practice is seeing a spike in Mommy Makeovers, any combination of a breast augmentation, lift, tummy tuck and liposuction. He now does about four a month, which is double what he used to do.

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, there were 117,158 tummy tucks done in 2014, an 87% increase from 2000. Breast lifts saw a 75% increase during the same time period, with 92,724 of them done nationwide.

“Nearly everybody feels so much better about themselves,” says Dr. Lewis.

He describes the ideal candidate: A woman, like Garrett, who dieted and exercised for years and just needs a boost.

“Things as you get older that just don’t go back into  place,” Garrett says.

So, how did she do? We will have the big reveal and more on how much a Mommy Makeover will cost you in Part 2 of our special report on 8News at 11 and on wric.com.
