CHESTERFIELD, Va. (WRIC) — A Chesterfield family is wondering who could have stolen a massive rubber ducky that was set-up on their front lawn. The family says the rubber ducky has sentimental value, because it was purchased for their grand-daughter who has aspergers, a form of autism.
“This is where our ducky was, and it’s actually ginormous,” said 6-year-old Alexis Hale explained to 8News Reporter Ava-joye Burnett. “We have a lot of people asking, where did our ducky go? Who took it? ”
Alexis realized that her rubber ducky was missing this morning, as she got ready to go to school.
“It really broke my heart that it’s missing, I mean, I just love that rubber duck. It’s a really big ducky,” said Alexis.
The young girl is fascinated with rubber ducks, so the family recently bought the giant inflatable item for her. The rubber ducky became so popular, not only with Alexis, but also with neighbors. Some residents would occasionally stop by the family’s yard to take pictures with the inflatable toy.
“It’s not so much about the money. It was over $200 but, it was something that she loved and it meant a lot to her,” says Lillian Bidwell, Alexis’ grand-mother.
The family says the item was stolen sometime Tuesday night and Chesterfield police are investigating.
