Perrantes lifts No. 5 Virginia past California, 63-62 in OT
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) – London Perrantes made a 3-pointer with 10 seconds remaining in overtime Tuesday night and No. 5 Virginia survived a poor shooting night and beat California 63-62 for its ninth consecutive victory.
Anthony Gill led Virginia (10-1) with 17 points, freshman Jarred Reuter had 11 and Perrantes and Malcolm Brogdon each had 10, but the Cavaliers made just 21 of 54 shots (38.9 percent) and never led until just 1:04 was left in regulation.
Jaylen Brown scored 18 and Jordan Mathews 16 for the Golden Bears (9-3), whose five-game winning streak was snapped. Cal led by as many as 11 twice in the second-half, but scored just two points in the last 7 1/2 minutes.
In overtime, three points each from Brown and Wallace and a putback by Ivan Rabb gave Cal a 60-54 lead with 2:25 remaining, but Isaiah Wilkins’ putback turned into a 3-point play for Virginia, and Brogdon followed two free throws by Brown with his third 3-pointer of the game to make it 62-60.

Johnson’s 22 points helps power VCU past Buffalo, 90-69
RICHMOND, Va. (AP) – Melvin Johnson knocked down 5 of 9 shots from long range and put up 22 points and VCU snapped a three-game losing streak with a 90-69 romp past Buffalo Tuesday night.
The teams met for the first time since the 1994-95 season. The Rams are 5-0 against Buffalo and 14-7 all-time against teams from the Mid-American Conference.
VCU (6-5) built a 40-27 advantage by halftime and outscored the Bulls by eight in the second half, 50-42.
Johnson was 7 of 11 from the field, 3 of 3 from the free-throw line and collected three steals.
VCU was 34-of-69 (49.3 percent) shooting from the field, including 9 of 26 from distance, while making 18 steals and forcing Buffalo into 31 turnovers.
Rodell Wigginton scored 17 points to lead Buffalo (6-6). Lamonte Bearden and CJ Massinburg added 12 and 11 points, respectively.
PRESBYTERIAN-RICHMOND
Allen leads Richmond over Presbyterian 74-44
RICHMOND, Va. (AP) – Terry Allen scored 19 points and 10 rebounds to lead Richmond to a 74-44 victory over Presbyterian on Tuesday for the Spiders’ fourth consecutive victory.
Allen was 8 of 11 from the floor in posting his fourth double-double this season. Trey Davis added 12 points and Khwan Fore 11 for the Spiders (8-3).
DeSean Murray, who came in averaging 21.6 points per game, led the Blue Hose (5-7) with 13 points, but had only two after halftime before fouling out. Reggie Dillard added 10.
Richmond shot 52.7 percent and scored 24 points off 22 turnovers. The Spiders had a 42-24 advantage in the paint.
Murray scored nine of Presbyterian’s first 11 points, including five straight to tie the game. But the Spiders got the next six points and never trailed again. Richmond led 34-21 at halftime and a 15-3 run to open the second half left it comfortably ahead.
