Then, the first Tornado Warning was issued for Tuscaloosa County around 3:45. 8News sister station WIAT even received several pictures of the funnel cloud that was spotted. Sporadic damage was reported around the Mercedes Plant.
The storm then weakened, but fired back up again as it reached Jefferson County. The Midfield/Fairfield areas were hit hard first. Then, the supposed tornado moved over Birmingham. Extensive damage was reported on Jefferson Avenue SW, where an entire city block sustained major damage.
