LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — A letter from Santa was just what 9-year-old Emily Milks needed this Christmas.

“Someone in my class said that Santa wasn’t real, so I was going to write him a letter and I was going to see if he responded,” said Milks.

It’s the busiest time of year at the Lafayette Post Office, but that didn’t stop Jerri Stockberger from getting Emily’s letter to and from the North Pole on time.

“Makes everything in the season all worth it, all the busyness just goes right out the window when you see those little kids and their happy little faces,” said Stockberger.

It made Emily’s parents excited too.

“I picked it up in the mail and I saw North Pole on there, and I was shocked that he had written back so fast,” said Emily’s dad, Scott Milks.

Santa’s promptness didn’t surprise the Lafayette Post Office though. Stockberger said she envies his ability to send everything around the world in just one night.

“Santa is pretty impressive,” admitted Stockberger. “I gotta say, he’s impressed me for all of these years and he’ll never stop, so you’ve gotta have faith in Santa.”

Emily asked Santa for a Pogo stick and although Santa didn’t say exactly what he was getting her, he did thank her for being a good girl this year.

“Emily is always a good kid,” said Emily’s mother, Nikki Milks. “We don’t need Christmas to like remind us of that, but it’s nice that she gets told that through a letter from Santa because we tell her all the time and our teachers tell her, but she’s a good kid, very well behaved and sweet, and always thinking of other people.”

She even thinks of those who didn’t quite make it on the “nice” list this year.

“I think that everyone deserves at least something, even if they’ve been mean,” said Emily.

Christmas is her favorite holiday. She loves to get gifts, but she loves giving them more.

“It makes me feel excited about what their reaction of what it’s going to be,” said Emily. “I’m also worried if they’ll like it or not, but I think that they always will because someone gave it to them.”

She can’t wait to see what her parents think of the gift she picked out and wrapped herself this year.
