RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Bridging RVA revived the Community Christmas Day Dinner at Planet Zero in Richmond.

This was the first community Christmas dinner in two years, ever since the Freedom House closed down.

Anyone in need was able to attend the dinner and receive a warm holiday meal.

Harold Smith has lived in Richmond for a few months and says he’s been homeless for awhile.

“I just appreciate it all. You can’t put into words what people are doing for us,” said Smith.

Bridging RVA says they work to fill the gap between social services and people in need.

“The energy here is fantastic and to see people who are willing to leave their homes and their families. And a lot of whole families are here, children, parents, grandparents are here serving the needs of the community. It’s very fulfilling,” said Bridging RVA Board Memeber Leanne Sawyer.

This year over 200 people signed up to volunteer and there are plans to keep the Christmas Day dinner going for years to come.
