RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Rain will develop during the late morning and afternoon.
At first, it will be light but it will pick up during the evening and tonight. This rain is part of a warm front which was well north of the region yesterday, which is why we were so warm, but now it has retreated back to the Mid-Atlantic as a cold front. This will force our temperatures to fall throughout the day from our early highs this morning in the middle to upper 50s to the upper 40s by the evening commute. As this system sits over us, the main part of this weather maker is over Texas and is lifting northeast into the Ohio Valley.
This will help to push that cold front back north as a warm front by Tuesday morning and the rain showers will come to an end for a while and our temperatures will shoot back up into the upper 60s to lower 70s. Finally, that main system will lift north into New England, dropping our temperatures again for later Tuesday and bringing us another shot of rain.
The last part of this system will push into the region from the south on Wednesday, bringing us one last chance of rain with highs in the lower 60s.
Finally we will see partly sunny skies return for Thursday, New Year’s Eve day, with highs in the middle to upper 50s. It will be cool as we ring in the New Year with temperatures in the middle 40s under clear skies. Partly sunny skies will be around for New Year’s Day with highs in the lower 50s.
Saturday and Sunday will be partly to mostly sunny with highs in the upper 40s to near 50.
