RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — For some central Virginia teams and athletes, 2015 was a pretty good year.
In March, VCU Rams Men’s Basketball became the Atlantic 10 Conference champions. This was their first A-10 championship since joining the conference three years ago.
In December, Highland Springs High School football team brought home the state championship trophy. The Springers haven’t won a state championship in football since 1961.
Local athletes also shinned this year.
Greg Dortch, Highland Springs’ senior wide receiver, became the 2015 All-Metro football Player of the Year. Dortch helped the Springers bring home the championship trophy.
Jacobi Green, Richmond Spiders’ running back, was voted as STATS FCS All-American.
Monacan High School’s Megan Walker continues to stay a top college basketball prospect. Walker is a guard for the Chiefs and is in her junior year. She is the number one prospect of the class of 2017.
