Police: 1 charged, 6 injured in Henrico County crash

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Six people, including two children, were injured after two vehicles collided in Henrico County’s east end on Monday.

The accident happened shortly before noon at the intersection of Alma and East Laburnum avenues.

According to Henrico police, eight people – five adults and three children – were waiting for a GRTC bus to arrive when a Ford SUV came crashing through the bus stop, injuring six of the people who were waiting. Police say an Infinity sedan was crossing Laburnum when it struck a Ford SUV, causing the SUV to run off the right side of the road into the bus stop.

Six of the people were injured. The four adults were all transported to VCU Medical Center with minor injuries. One of the children was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries. The other child suffered minor injuries.

A man who witnessed the accident, William E. Smith, told 8News reporter Candice Cole, “[A] man ran through the stop sign and hit a lady going down laburnum avenue and she ran into the bus stop and a little girl got pinned up under the wheel.”

Another bystander, Melvin Jones Jr., who witnessed the wreck from nearby Randy’s Auto Service stepped in to help.

“I went over to Mr. Oakley’s service station and got the floor jack, and we jacked the car up as far as we could. the little  girl had gloves on her hands and was just laying there in peace.”

The driver of the Infinity, Iman Robinson, was arrested on charges of reckless driving and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license.
