RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — For VCU head coach Will Wade, Wednesday night’s matchup with the University of North Florida isn’t just another game.
It pits him against his friend and mentor: Ospreys’ men’s basketball head coach Matthew Driscoll.
The connection between them spans 13 years, starting in 2002 when Wade was a student manager for Clemson basketball while Driscoll was an assistant coach.
During that time Wade babysat Driscoll’s kids while Driscoll gave Wade advice on his career, helped him get into coaching, eventually the two became head coaches of their own programs.
It will be a moment to reflect on their paths to success before tipoff. After that, their main concern will be getting a crucial win for their respective teams.
