Petersburg organizes events to occupy students during winter break

PETERSBURG, Va. (WRIC) — Since December 21st, Petersburg Public Schools and the City of Petersburg have been sponsoring activities for students on winter break.

First Lady Dorothy McAuliffe made the announcement earlier this month about numerous activities within the city. Some events included movie marathons, sports, games and food gatherings.

There was an educational event and college preparedness event on Tuesday. The city organized “A Day in the Life of a College Student” at the public library. The event allowed Petersburg High School alum to interact with current high school students and share their college experiences.

A city spokesperson said the events were organized to address recent crime in the city and to provide activities for students while they were on winter break.
