Slight risk for thunderstorms this afternoon and evening

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — A cold front over the Appalachian Mountains will slowly push east today.

However, out ahead of it our winds will turn to the southwest and that will continue to bring back the heat and humidity. Look for highs to climb to near 90 in many locations under partly sunny skies. That front will cross in Central Virginia during the late afternoon and evening, mixing with our heat and humidity and that could bring us a few thunderstorms.

The main time frame for any thunderstorms will be from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m., with some of the storms containing heavy downpours and some gusty winds. Our skies will become partly cloudy after 10 p.m. and we should have a very nice view of the planets Jupiter and Venus in the western sky. These two planets will be very close within a 1/3° so, you won’t miss it. It will be muggy tonight with lows in the lower 70s.
