Virginia’s Year in Review: Part III

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — In April, a national manhunt that started in Petersburg ended in Buffalo, New York.

The suspect, Alexander Hill Jr., wanted for murdering four people in one family. Hill was captured almost one year later to the day.

Hill is now back in central Virginia awaiting trial in early 2016.

It was the story of a local politician that had a lot of people talking.

Former Delegate Joe Morrissey’s personal life in the spotlight.

The veteran attorney and politician finally amitted he’s in a relationship with a former intern and a child was also in the equation.

“Of course we are going to get married.  I love Myrna, she’s smart, she’s intelligent, she makes me laugh…,” said Morrissey.

Morrissey entered an alford plea to a charge of contributing to the delinquency of a minor in 2014.

In 2015 perjury and felony charges against him were dismissed.

An 8News Investigation found there are there are hundreds of untested rape kits in Virginia delaying justice for sexual assault victims.

A 1.4 million dollar grant is now making it easier for the state to test those rape kits to hopefully bring perpetrators to justice.

It was a trip to america with a following fit for a holy father.

“Just seeing him come in in his Pope mobile was just incredible,” said Richmond native Anna Mohler.

The Pope’s visit drew thousands to D.C.

The Pontiff also conducted a Homily in Spanish.
