RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Looking back on December of 2015, it was one for the history books!
The warmest December on record with an average high of 52.1 degrees, smashing a record that stood for 126 years! It was also a wet month; nearly 6 inches of rain fell at the Richmond International Airport putting it down in the books as the 8th wettest on record. What will 2016 bring? Only time will tell! I can tell you, however, how it’s looking in the shorter term!
Sunshine re-emerges, slowly today and temperatures topping out in the mid-50s. The weekend ahead will feature plenty of sunshine and highs around 50.
By Monday we start to tap into some much colder air that will spill out of Canada, about time, right?! Highs Monday in the middle 40s, but it is Tuesday we tap into the core of the cold, highs will struggle the get out of the mid to upper 30s, an impulse of energy will dive out of the great lakes region and that could help ignite a few scattered flurries but not much more than that.
Afterwards, temperatures remain right on target for the beginning of January with no major weather makers through next weekend.
Happy New Year!
