HENRICO/CHESTERFIELD, Va. (WRIC) — You should expect to pay more money at the tolls on Pocahontas Parkway.

It will now cost $4.00 for two-axle vehicles at the main plaza and $2.25 for all vehicles at the Laburnum, New Market and Airport Drive ramps.

Multi-axle vehicles will pay $1 more per axle over the $4 toll at the Main Plaza, with the maximum toll $8 for six axles or more. The $2.25 toll at the Laburnum/New Market and Airport Drive ramp toll points is the same for all vehicles, no matter the number of axles.

Those traveling on Pocahontas Parkway pay either the Main Plaza price or the lower price at a ramp toll point, but never both during a single trip. The price paid depends on the individual trip, with the higher price charged to customers who pass through the Main Plaza and cross the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Bridge over the James River, and the lower price charged to customers who do not pass through the Main Plaza on a trip between a ramp toll point and Interstate 295.

Tolls on the Parkway were last raised three years ago, in January 2013, with a top price of $3.25 at the Main Plaza and $1.50 at the secondary toll points. The toll increase is in accordance with the applicable schedule of permitted toll increases approved by the Virginia Department of Transportation in 2006.

“Increased toll revenue will go toward operations and maintenance of the road, and to pay for the cost of financing the road,” said Mary Ellin Arch, spokeswoman for Pocahontas Parkway.

A major re-surfacing of the Parkway is scheduled for 2016-2017.
