RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — An emotional meeting was held in the City of Richmond tonight surrounding the violent start to the New Year.
Kenneth Williams, who runs the Adult Alternative Program is on a mission to do something concrete to stop crime before it happens. ‘Keeping it Clean in 2016, Each One, Reach One & Teach One!’ is the motto, and the object is positive intervention, not just after a crime is committed but before.
The mother of 12-year-old Amiya Moses, who was killed after being struck by a stray bullet six days before Christmas, was among the many local residents in attendance.
“Violence killed my daughter,” Amiya’s mother, Kele Wright, said. “My whole world, my everything … That was my whole life. I gave birth to her.
“She would want me to be here,” Wright said of her daughter. “Just because you took one life doesn’t mean you’re gonna take my life. She lives through me no matter what.”
Since 2012, Williams’ program has helped those released from prison transition back into becoming productive members of society. To learn more about the Adult Alternative Program, click here.
