RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — On Monday, we could learn whether the U.S. Supreme Court will hear former Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell’s case. McDonnell has been appealing his corruption conviction in an effort to stay out of prison.

A jury found McDonnell guilty of public corruption back in September of 2014. He was accused of accepting more than $165,000 in gifts and loans in exchange for political favors though McDonnell has maintained he only extended routine political courtesies. McDonnell was sentenced to two years in prison. The former governor has remained free during the appeals process.

Now, the justices hold the power to review his case, while the two-year prison sentence still looms.

Justices met Friday to discuss the case but did not make a decision on whether they will take it up. A decision could come today.
