CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WRIC) — Jesse Matthew was back in court Monday for what turned out to be a marathon hearing that lasted almost nine hours.
The defense fought to get evidence collected from Jesse Matthew’s apartment tossed from the case. But ultimately the judge denied his motion, ruling that evidence will stay.
Matthew’s attorney argued that police intentionally misled a magistrate to get a search warrant for Matthew’s home. The judge apparently didn’t agree, ruling there was probable cause for the warrant.
We did hear of new evidence in the investigation of Hannah Graham’s abduction and murder, including that a bloodhound tracked her scent to a large mulch pile in an old industrial part of Charlottesville. According to the dogs handler, it was such a strong scent, he believes it could be the result of fear or adrenalin.
Police also testified that the K9 also found Hannah’s scent at five spots in Matthew’s apartment complex.
Attorneys will be back in court on January 21 when the defense intends to argue use another legal tactict to try and get the evidence thrown out.
