RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — It will be a cold day today with highs in the upper 20s and winds out of the northwest from 10 to 20 mph which will give us wind chills in the teens for much of the day.
Our skies will be clear tonight with lighter winds and that will allow the temps to really drop into the single digits to lower teens across central Virginia.
Tuesday will be a sunny but cold day with highs around 30. Wednesday will start off sunny but a few clouds will increase during the afternoon as a weak weather disturbance comes out of the Ohio Valley and brings us a few snow showers during the evening and early part of the night. That system will move out and the cold air will remain for Thursday with highs around 40. At that point all eyes turn to a major winter storm which will be moving out of Texas and heading into Tennessee.

That system will develop a new storm off of the South Carolina Coast – Georgia Coast and then move up along the coast. This system will spread snow into the region early Friday morning into the afternoon. The snow will become steadier and heavier during the day and based on the current track only areas south and east of Richmond would have the risk of mixing with and changing to rain, while most areas along I-95 and points west will be snow, and a heavy wet snow at that.
This system will quickly move out by Saturday morning with any lingering snow showers ending and sunshine returning later in the day. More sunshine is expected by Sunday.
