RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — One person is dead and two others are injured after a shooting at a club overnight in Richmond.
Shortly after 1 a.m. Monday, police say a man was shot and killed on the dance floor of the Illusions night club on Midlothian Turnpike. Another person was also shot and injured, though that victim is expected to survive.
As people were trying to evacuate the club after the gunfire, a woman was hit by a car. She suffered non-life threatening injuries.
About 150 to 200 people were inside Illusions when the shots rang out.
Authorities have been collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses inside the club at the time of the shooting.
“As you can imagine, the club was fairly crowded when the shooting occurred, so we had a lot of people around, but whether people could see anything and get an honest account of what occurred, we’re trying to get to the bottom of that right now,” said Gene Lepley, spokesperson for the Richmond Police Department.
Lepley says the club has security cameras covering the outside of the building. They are looking into whether there are cameras inside.
Richmond Police had four officers working off duty outside the club at the time of the shooting. When they heard shots had been fired, they went inside and found the victims.
There’s been no word yet about a suspect.
Police have not released the name of the man who was killed.
