CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A man authorities say charged at a Chesterfield officer with a knife before being shot by police was arraigned Wednesday.
30-year-old Chad T. Mrotek appeared in Chesterfield General District Court this morning and was arraigned on charges including breaking and entering with intent to commit murder, attempted first degree murder, attempted capital murder of a police officer and use of threatening or indecent language over the public airways in relation to the incident.
In the early morning of January 3, police say they were called to the 3000 bock of Rycliff Avenue. There, the responding officer saw a male suspect, identified by police as Mrotek, breaking into a home, armed with a knife. Officials said the officer followed Mrotek into the home.
Inside, authorities said Mrotek charged at the officer with the knife in hand. The officer then shot Mrotek.
Mrotek’s preliminary hearing has been set for March 16.
