RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — The former security guard accused of killing a man at the VCU pharmacy has been found guilty of involuntary manslaughter.

67-year-old George Brown was convicted Thursday of involuntary manslaughter in connection to the death of 64-year-old Phillip Whitaker in August 2015.

Brown apparently pushed Whitaker when he allegedly tried to cut in line at the pharmacy. Whitaker fell, hit his head and died two days later.

Brown worked as a security guard with L.E.W. & Associates when the incident happened. The company later released a statement saying Brown had been suspended pending the results of the police investigation.

Sentencing for Brown was set March 25. He will remain free on bond until his sentencing date.

8News reporter Jonathan Costen is in court today and will have a full report tonight on 8News at 5.
