RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — The waiting is almost over; the storm is forming along the Gulf Coast States and will be here tomorrow. Winter Storm Warnings are now in effect for all of us with Blizzard Warnings in Northern Virginia.
The only 2 questions are how much warm air will make it into areas mainly east of I-95 and just exactly how much moisture will come in here. We won’t know those answers until after the fact.
So here we go: Tonight clouds will be increasing with lows in the lower to middle 20s.
Snow moves into tomorrow. You might not have it for your breakfast, but by the time you sit down for the tuna salad sandwich at lunch it will be here. Highs will be right around freezing, which means this will be a heavy, wet snow. We will have a good covering of snow by the evening.
Snow, which will be heavy at times, will continue in to the evening as the storm really starts to intensify off the Carolina coastline and slowly lifts north. It is during this time frame that the warmer air along will back into the area from the east. Right now, US-360 from Tappahannock down to South Boston is a good maker for how far inland that warm air makes it. This mean that we will have some mixed precipitation into the eastern half of the metro area, and thus lesser snow amounts there. Out west it will keep coming down.
Saturday, as the storm lifts to the north some dry air over us, there will be a lull in the precipitation during the day. However on the back side of the system, snow will return in the afternoon and evening with additional accumulations. Highs will make it to near 35.
The snow ends by Sunday when we’ll see sunshine in the afternoon with a high near 37.
Wednesday into Thursday, there are some signs of another system, but we will worry about that next week.
