RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — A cool and refreshing start to the long holiday weekend as many of you are seeing temperatures this morning in the 60s! We haven’t seen that in quite some time.
We have a stationary front to blame for the changes this morning. Look for that front to ‘see-saw’ north and south today but generally remaining stalled out over the mid-Atlantic and therefore keeping the risk for showers in the picture. I think for the majority of the day we will be dry, BUT it is around fireworks time later today that I see more showers and even some thunderstorms developing. Now, keep in mind these will not be widespread so not everyone will be affected but it may certainly cause some displays to be altered or even canceled this evening. Today’s forecast calls for mainly cloudy skies, but I can’t rule out some substantial breaks of sunshine from time to time, temperatures rather comfortable for the beginning of July, highs in the lower 80s.
Independence Day will feature some larger breaks of sunshine after some early morning showers. This sunshine will help fuel the risk for more thunderstorms into the evening hours, again possibly impacting some firework displays. Best option is stay in tune with the radar each evening for storms heading in your direction.
Sunday will bring more of the same conditions as the front doesn’t make much headway.
Back to work next week will bring temperatures back to average this time of the year in the upper 80s and lower 90s with thunderstorm chances each afternoon.
Have a happy and safe holiday weekend!
