RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Light snow with off and on bursts of more moderate snow continues over the area. Radar indicates that there are several more bands of moderate to heavy snow due to come through the area in the next 2 to 3 hours. A slow tapering of the snow will start in the 8 p.m.–11 p.m. time frame. The gusty northerly winds over the area will continue to cause blowing and drifting of snow over us and give us wind chills between 8 and 15. Those winds will start to diminish later.
Numerous reports of 9-14 inches of snow in the area as of right now with the biggest report that I have in our area being 20″ of snow in Orange County.
Late at night, the skies will clear and overnight lows will fall back into the mid to upper teens.
Sunday will be sunny with a high near freezing while Monday will be mostly sunny in the area with highs between 35 and 40.
Tuesday into Wednesday a cold front will approach the area bringing a band of showers into the region. This will make it warmer as highs both days will reach into the 40 to 45-degree range.
At the end of the week, some of the models (the Canadian primarily) indicate a storm may form along that front offshore and ride to the northeast. Most of the models are far enough offshore so the effects on us would be only a few clouds in the region. If it comes closer to shore, that would potentially be trouble for us. Right now, I expect to see partly sunny skies with a high in the upper 30s to the lower 40s. Once that system moves away, nicer weather is on tap for next weekend, although it will still be cold in the area.
