RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — As the headline says, the biggest issue this week as we try to dig out will be that temperatures during the day will be warm enough to do a lot of melting, and overnight temperatures will be cold enough to freeze any snow melt. Even salt treated roads should be driven with extra caution due to icy spots, but especially areas that aren’t salt treated.
Be careful of any moisture that freezes on steps, walkways, and driveways too.
Tonight we’ll see clouds increasing, with partly cloudy skies by Monday morning. The low will be 16 — plenty cold enough to freeze any standing water.
Tomorrow we’ll see partly cloudy skies turn mostly cloudy, with a high of 40. This will do another round of melting tomorrow, with the refreeze cycle continuing Monday night.
Tuesday also looks partly to mostly cloudy, with a high of 46. Tuesday night looks like it will be at or just above freezing, with a round of isolated rain showers moving in.
Wednesday is a day we should keep an eye on. A very weak system will move through bringing us a few rain showers, but signs are pointing to the upper levels cooling down, giving us the potential for a changeover to a wintry mix and even snow throughout the day on Wednesday. This will by no means be a huge event, but it certainly won’t help things if we do get that cold air in to create another round of wintry precipitation.
Thursday we’ve got sunshine and a high of 37. More melting, with more refreezing on Thursday night. You get what’s happening here?
Friday — a few light snow showers possible. I’d be willing to wager that area schools will remain closed for a while.
