RICHMOND, VA. (WRIC) — Has this storm left you snowed in? Many members of the 8News team are too, but we’re using some new technology to report the news where you live. This morning, you may have heard a familiar Good Morning Richmond voice tell you about conditions in his neighborhood.
“I’d like to welcome you to the buffalo of the south,” said 8News meteorologist Matt DiNardo, reporting dark and early from outside his front door in Chesterfield County Sunday morning.
“I cleared my driveway but the problem was once I was able to get out, I had to then go up this hill here,” he told morning viewers, which was something many Richmonders might have already experienced first-hand.
Using a new app called TVU Anywhere, the 8News team was able to broadcast conditions in local subdivisions.
“The snow is deep, the plows haven’t gotten to the residential streets and that’s the big problem,” said 8News reporter Kristin Smith, who lives in Glen Allen. “Bear with me as I juggle a camera and a flash light.
“It is drifted up to about a foot and a half on most people’s driveways; at least it is in this neighborhood, so getting out of your driveway alone is going to be a problem.”
In the heart of Richmond, 8News reporter Parker Slaybaugh gave morning viewers a look at the historic Fan District.
“I’m going to turn my camera around so you can see I’m on Grace Street in the Fan,” Slaybaugh told viewers Sunday. “The snow drift has literally covered some of these. There’s a car under that.
“Do you see the sidewalk? I don’t. It’s not there. It’s covered.”
