RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — For the most part, the main roads in the City of Richmond are clear. The secondary streets, however, are still a struggle.
8News spotted several drivers stuck in the snow on the city’s southside. You know it’s bad when a Ford 150 pick up truck gets stuck.
“With four-wheel drive too!” adds the driver, John Branch.
Richmonders began to dig out on Monday.
“It is very heavy, very heavy, it’s a lot of pressure to move it as you can see,” Paulette Anderson said while shoveling her sidewalk in the Brookbury neighborhood. “All ice, all ice under here.”
As they dug out, one man found trying to get out of his neighborhood to be almost impossible.
“Tried to back out, put it in drive but didn’t go anywhere, landed here,” said Jose Marte, who was stuck on Shelby Drive.
City plows are continuing to work 24 hour shifts. They were just getting to those secondary streets on Monday. City workers are rushing Tuesday morning to continue clearing the snow and ice. City officials tell us they plan to have all the streets cleared by Tuesday evening.
Yet, residents here on Shelby Drive are frustrated. They say they’re routinely ignored.
“I haven’t seen a plow period since it started snowing,” Marte said.
Branch added, “They never did anything to it, they never plowed it or anything.”
Some 8News viewers have also reached out complaining about the City’s 311 system, saying you can’t get through. City officials told us the call center was working on a 24 hour schedule through the storm, but has since scaled back. You are advised to follow the voicemail prompts and leave a message. They say they will get back to you.
