More snow will melt today; weak system with showers moves through tonight

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Mostly cloudy skies will be over the region today and it will be seasonable with highs in the upper 40s, so more melting will happen today.

A very weak weather system will be approaching from the west and that will spread some heavier clouds into the region later this afternoon and into the evening hours. Our skies will be generally cloudy tonight with light rain showers off and on from this evening through the overnight. These showers are part of a cold front which will bring cooler air in for Wednesday. As the cooler air comes in, any leftover showers might mix with a few flurries, but certainly no accumulation as all is expected.

As that cold front moves farther off of the coast we might see some late day sunshine, but highs on Wednesday will only be in the lower 40s. Our skies will be clear Wednesday night and it will be cold with lows near 25, so what melts will refreeze once again.

Thursday will be a decent day with partly sunny skies and highs in the middle 40s.

The system that we continue to watch for Friday looks to pass to our south, thankfully, so at this point we are looking at partly sunny skies with a few rain shower possible near the Virginia – North Carolina line and into the Tide Water, but this system will still need to be watched for any changes to its track.

Looking ahead to the weekend, we will see sunny skies for both Saturday and Sunday with highs from 50 to 55.
