HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A New York man is locked up in the Henrico County jail, accused of forcing a 15-year-old girl into prostitution.
Sharim Singletary faces 12 felony charges for allegedly bringing the teen across state lines and pimping her out for money.
Police say Singletary ran the alleged sex business out of a Short Pump apartment complex.
The Madison at Spring Creek is an upscale, gated community near West Broad and Pump Road.
According to a search warrant affidavit, Singletary allegedly advertised sexual services on a free online classifieds site called backpage.com.
Court documents indicate an undercover officer participating in a vice investigation responded to one of those online ads and that led him to the 15-year-old girl and her alleged captor.
Detectives searched the apartment and confiscated a cell phone, ipad, and laptop.
They also recovered a plastic bag with what’s believed to be marijuana and a bunch of counterfeit ten dollar bills.
Singletary is behind bars with no bond.
If convicted, he could be locked up for life.
