DELAWARE COUNTY, Ohio (WCMH) — Multiple agencies helped rescue 44 dogs from unbearable living conditions at a Delaware County home.
After getting a tip from a concerned citizen, the Humane Society of Delaware County secured a search warrant on Friday to seize the animals on Marysville Road.
Carol Girberd, the Director of the Humane Society of Delaware County, said many of the dogs are underweight and have skin problems. She said the living conditions are ‘indescribable.’
“It was filled with feces. There was overgrown weeds on the outside of the kennels. The dogs are all filthy and muddy,” the Director of the Humane Society of Delaware County Carol Girberd.
Girberd said many of these dogs lived in outside pens and were sleeping on dirt and feces with no shelter from the weather.
Licking, Franklin, and Montgomery County’s Humane Society all made the trip to Delaware to help with the rescue.
The Rascal Unit was also ready to immediately help treat the dogs.
Gilberd says cases like this show the importance of spaying and neutering your animals. She says there is plenty of affordable shelters who can help.
The Delaware County Humane Society can only hold 22 dogs.
The animals will be divided up and sent to Licking, Franklin, and Montgomery County’s Humane Society. The dogs will be available for adoption.
