Former Spider Anthony will play professionally in Turkey

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Kendall Anthony is one of the most beloved players in Richmond Spiders history. He called the Robins Center home for many successful years, and now he’s found a new home.

It’s really far away.

Anthony will play professionally for the Turkish club Gelisim Koleji out of the Aegean Sea coastal town of Izmir.

The following additional information comes directly from the University of Richmond:

IZMIR, Turkey – Former Richmond standout Kendall Anthony ‘15 will continue his basketball career as a professional player in Turkey.

Anthony has signed on to play with Gelisim Koleji in the Turkish TB2L league. His team is based out of Izmir, Turkey.

A native of Jackson, Tennessee, Anthony follows a long line of Richmond players that have earned professional contracts overseas. At least one graduating player from nine of head coach Chris Mooney’s 10 seasons has signed a pro contract.

“I’m so blessed to sign a professional contract in Turkey,” Anthony said. “Playing professionally has long been a dream of mine, and I can’t wait to get over there and get started.”

Anthony finished his Richmond career this spring ranked fourth all-time with 1,909 career points. He set a new program record with 270 career three-pointers, and finished sixth all-time in field goals, seventh in free throws, fifth in free throw percentage and sixth in three-point percentage.

This past season, Anthony earned All-Atlantic 10 First Team honors and was tabbed NABC All-District First Team and VaSID All-State First Team. He ranked sixth in the conference with 16.4 points per game and was 37th in the nation with 36.5 minutes per contest.
