HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Henrico County firefighters went above and beyond the call of duty on Tuesday morning.

It happened when a woman pulled into fire station seven with a kitten trapped inside the wheel well of her car.

Captain Will Aiken explains, “A citizen came by the fire station and told us that she had a cat that was stuck underneath her car.”

Aiken says the kitten wasn’t just underneath the car, he was trapped inside the vehicle’s suspension.

The guys at station seven reacted quickly. They called the technical rescue team for help and together, they took action.

“We were able to lift the car up and remove the tire and we were able to access the kitten and with a little bit of work and a little smiling, we were able to get the kitten out with no injuries,” adds Aiken.

It’s a happy ending to what seemed to be a terrifying tale.

The stray kitten, who looks to be about eight weeks old, was riding around in the car’s suspension while the unsuspecting driver was running errands.

Now as the kitten rests up at the Henrico County Animal Shelter, his unsung heroes are talking up the rescue that made their day.

“It was a lighthearted moment, the kitten wasn’t injured and it was just neat to be able to do it and everybody got out without any injuries,” says Aiken.

The little guy doesn’t have a name or an owner, but he will available for adoption from the Henrico County Animal Shelter on July 23.
