Weather believed to be cause of warehouse wall collapse

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Weather is believed to be the cause of a warehouse wall collapse yesterday on South Laburnum Avenue in Henrico County.

Henrico County building inspectors were back at the scene Monday at Cockrell Logistics Services combing over the debris and checking the structure and they say it appears strong winds brought the wall down.

The fire department found strong winds destroyed a loading dock door on another side of the building. That evidence leads fire and building inspectors to believe this wall collapse  was also related to weather. They believe there was some kind of a strong storm cell in the area.

The fire department tells 8News they found no signs of an explosion, lighting strike or anything else that could have brought this wall down.

The building was built in 1968. It is not typical for building inspectors to perform regular inspections on a building unless they get a complaint.

8News checked with Henrico and the County had not received any complaints of code violations at this location prior to the wall collapse.

Fortunately, no one was in the warehouse when the wall came down and no one was hurt.
