COLONIAL HEIGHTS, Va. (WRIC) — Sometime between July 7 and July 10, someone went to at least two Colonial Heights neighborhoods and broke into several homes and cars.
Colonial Heights Police say $10,000 worth of items was stolen, including jewelry and guns.
Word of what happened spread fast in a neighborhood located at the 100 block of Carroll Avenue.
“I mean, I think it’s crazy. It’s crazy that people are doing that. There are other ways to live life and make money, other than stealing,” says Ashley Daniel, a resident in that neighborhood.
On July 12, police arrested and charged Stephen Adams, 23 with the thefts. Police say Adams left an item behind at one of the homes, and that’s how they were able to identify him. Police did not want to release what that item was.
Police says they were also able to connect Adams to the crimes because he started selling some of the stolen property to local pawn shops.
“Once we started investigating, some of these items started showing up at pawn shops that were being pawned,” says Sgt. Rob Ruxer with Colonial Heights police.
Some of the items have been recovered and returned to the owners, but four guns are still missing.
“Is that troubling that the firearms haven’t been found?” 8News anchor Ava-joye Burnett asked Sgt. Ruxer.
“It is, and we are searching down leads. We do ask if anybody does have information about anything, they can remain anonymous. They can call the Colonial Heights Police Department or they can call Crime Solvers,” says Ruxer.
Police ask anyone with information on this crime to call Crime Solvers. The number is 804-748-0660.
