PETERSBURG, Va. (WRIC) — Starting today in Petersburg, officials will be handing out violations to those who aren’t maintaining their property.
This comes after new laws were passed last month aimed to help keep Petersburg beautiful.
“Our goal is to make sure that there is no litter, there is no vegetation, we have a clean city and residents have to do their part to help out,” said Steven Hicks, the director of public works for the city of Petersburg.
The procedure has been an existing part of the city’s code; however, there is now a renewed push to enforce it. Repeat offenders could be charged with a misdemeanor, which can carry a fine of up to $500.
