HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — 8News has learned more about the heroic action of folks in Hanover after lightning set their neighbor’s home on fire.
It happened Monday night in the Kings Charter subdivision. Wendy McLamphy is still emotional about what she witnessed during the storm.
“I screamed, I you know, my hands were shaking dialing 911. Yea it was scary yea, but we’re so thankful that they’re safe,” explains McLamphy.
She spotted smoke and called 911. McLamphy adds another neighbor ran to the burning home and pounded on the door. Inside, the homeowner had no idea something was wrong.

“She wasn’t aware that her house was on fire and shortly after his pounding, that’s when she smelled the smoke and knew that’s why someone was pounding on her door and got out safely,” says McLamphy.
The fire was possibly the most frightening story coming out of last night’s storm that hit Hanover.
Mother Nature toppled trees and knocked out electricity leaving close to 5,000 Dominion Virginia Power customers in the dark.
