HOPEWELL, Va. (WRIC) — Hopewell Police have arrested the suspect who robbed a woman at gunpoint earlier this week.
At roughly 3:24 p.m. on Tuesday, August 11, police say a woman exited her vehicle in the 400 block of South 9th Ave. in the City of Hopewell when a male subject approached her and displayed a handgun, demanding she remove the rings from her fingers. The woman handed over the rings and the suspect fled on foot.
Because the suspect had a distinct tattoo on his face and was wearing a jersey with the number ’55’ on it, detectives were able to identify the offender as 44-year-old Allen Smith. He was arrested and charged with use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
The rings have been located and returned to the victim, according to police.
“The brazen nature of this robbery really concerned our detectives; they put in some long hours to ensure this offender was quickly removed from our streets,” Lt. Damon Stoker with the Hopewell Police Deparment.
