Chesterfield County couple searching for good Samaritan

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Call it a miracle or call it a stroke of luck. Last month Ray Hux was doing yard work in his front yard when he suffered a massive heart attack. As he lay dying in a ditch, a good Samaritan saw him, ran to a nearby convenience story to call 911, and then vanished.

Ray’s wife credits this man for saving her husbands life, now she wants to find the mystery man.

Ray and Becky Hux are high school sweethearts. Married now for more than half a century, the two eloped days before their high school prom in the year 1960. But on July 19, Becky Hux’s love of a lifetime was almost cut short.

Ray Hux had been outside weed eating when he suffered a massive heart attack, he fell face-down in this ditch full of water on the side of Harrowgate Road.

“All I can remember was trying to get up and I kept raising myself up about a foot and I would fall back down in the mud and the water,” said Ray Hux.

An unknown good Samaritan who was walking by found Hux and ran to a convenience store to dial 911.

Emergency crews arrived soon after and Hux was rushed to a nearby hospital where he has spent weeks recovering.

A recovery that Hux’s wife Becky says would not have happened if it wasn’t for that unknown man.

“I dont know what I would have done if something would have happened to him, like I said we’ve been together 54 years I don’t want to lose him, so I thank him very much from the bottom of my heart,” said Becky Hux.

And now just over a month later, Hux is back on his feet walking a mile a day. And most of the time those walks, hand in hand, with a woman who will now and forever be the twinkle in his eye.

“I wish there was something I could do to repay him… Because he gave me back my life,” said Becky Hux.

Her only wish now, is to find the man who gave her back that life.

The good Samaritan did give a name to 911 dispatch, that sounds like he said James Booth, although the audio is a little hard to hear.

If you know who this good Samaritan is, message Parker Slaybaugh on his Facebook or Twitter page, or you can email him at iReport8@wric.com
