HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A grand jury in Hanover County indicted Dyshawn Simpson and Alisa DeJesus of first degree murder and abduction with intent to extort money on Tuesday.
Last August, James Wells was abducted, stabbed multiple times, set on fire and left to die.
Prosecutors say 19-year-old DeJesus and 21-year-old Simpson hired Wells to drive them to Hanover County and then murdered him. Both Dejesus and Simpson are charged with first degree murder.
The prosecutor had hoped the horrifying details could serve as the basis for capital murder charges.
The Wells family is very disappointed — they had hoped for capital murder charges as well.
