RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — An effort to raise awareness about children in the foster system made a stop in Richmond last Friday.
The forever family walk started on Aug. 27 in Virginia Beach and will travel 6,000 miles through more than 30 states.
The walk is set up into two separate legs:
The first leg travels from the coastline of Virginia Beach to California coastline at the Santa Monica Pier, walking through Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, Nevada, and California.
The second leg travels from California to New York City, walking through Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and finally, New York City.
The walk was started by Jarett Wilkins, who hopes to connect children with loving families. He will share information about resources available in each state he visits.
You can follow Wilkins’ journey over the next two years at #ForeverFamilyWalk.
You can also donate to Wilkins efforts at GoFundMe. At the end of the walk, all the money left in the GoFundMe account will be immediately donated to a fund set up through One Simple Wish to give back to the children in these foster care programs.
