RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — It is an unsettled start to the weekend here in Central Virginia, and it is now looking like the front will not have enough energy to scour all of the clouds out of the area.
Tonight we will have scattered showers and thunderstorms in the area through mid evening. The best chance for rain looks to be west of I-95. Overnight it will be mostly cloudy with lows in the upper 60s to near 70.
Saturday will start off with clouds and then you will see some sunshine. So a partly sunny to partly cloudy day is expected. We will see a chance of a shower or thunderstorm in the southern half of the state. It will be a little bit breezy (in fact could be gusty along the coast) and highs will be in the middle 80s.
Sunday and Monday have the opportunity to be a little bit better weather wise, especially from Richmond northward. Skies will be partly cloudy on Sunday with a high in the lower to middle 80s. Monday should be mostly sunny with highs in the mid to upper 80s.
A weak system to the south, just off the coastline, could cause a shower in the area on Tuesday with highs in the upper 80s. Wednesday and Thursday, we will be right back to around 90. A front will arrive late Thursday or Friday and that will bring showers and thunderstorms with it. How fast that front moves out of the area will be a factor in the forecast for the big UVA-Notre Dame game and the NASCAR race, both next Saturday.
