RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) – A prowler is on run after entering at least two Richmond homes, while the families were sleeping during the early morning hours on September 4. The burglar even went into a young girl’s room, stealing iPod just inches from her bed.

When Steve Previtera woke up Friday morning, he and his family noticed open drawers and cabinets throughout their house on New Kent Road.

“We went downstairs to the back of the house and noticed a window was up,” said Previtera. “The door was ajar, at that point we realized we’d had a house invasion and we’d been here at the time.”

The burglar went through every room in the home as the family slept.

“When I woke up it was just really scary,” said Previtera’s 11-year old daughter, Kayla Rose. “I went to my sister and said, ‘Did you take my iPod?’ She said no. I was like, ‘Well, where is it then?’ My night stand is right next to my bed. It’s really close.

In all, two iPods and an iPhone were stolen, but it’s how the invasion played out that’s most upsetting.

“Our little girls were asleep, safe, tucked away in bed and someone actually entered their rooms,” said Previtera.

Neighbors called the news of the incident horrifying.

“To hear something like this is very alarming, said Meredith Serafini, who lives across the street. “There are kids pretty much in every house here.”

One block down on New Kent, someone entered another home through a screened in porch, stealing laptops, wallets, iPhones, and taking off in the owner’s Buick enclave. That family was also asleep at the time.

Too worried to go on camera, the homeowners said they are working with police in hopes of getting their belongings back.

Back at Steve Previtera’s house, has already taken steps to further protect his family.

“We signed up for a security system this morning,” he said.

The Previteras said a detective will look into the invasion in the coming week.
