MIDLOTIAN. Va. (WRIC) — It’s one of the busiest weekends of the summer for the outdoor pool here at the Midlothian Athletic Club as kids soak in the last hours of the summer and parents get ready for the school year.
“Our pool is our main summer attraction,” said MAC manager Steve Holmes.
It’s a summer staple, the outdoor pool, doors opening months ago meaning summer had arrived, but most of those pools are coming to a close as kids get ready to trade in their swim suits for school books.
“We usually have our families trying to get their last minute fun in before the students go back to school tomorrow,” said Holmes.
“It’s the last day of summer, it’s hot out and it just gives the kids one great chance to all get together and have fun,” said parent Karen Kerner.
Kerner says it’s also great to catch up with parents to find out how they’ve prepared for school. She says while it may be a bummer for kids, it’s a day many of them have been waiting for.
“We’re upset that pool is closing but not upset that it’s the last day for the kids to be here with us, it’s great to get back on that fall schedule,” said Kerner
She had this end of summer message for students enjoying their last day of freedom.
“Have a great day at school tomorrow kids.”
